This Vivianite specimen from Brazil features deep blue to green crystals, renowned for their ability to darken when exposed to light and air due to oxidation. Composed of hydrated iron phosphate (Fe₃(PO₄)₂·8H₂O), vivianite crystallizes in the monoclinic system, typically forming elongated or prismatic crystals. Initially pale or nearly colorless, vivianite deepens to vibrant blue or indigo hues over time. With a softness of 1.5–2 on the Mohs scale, vivianite is delicate and requires careful handling. It forms in phosphate-rich environments, and this specimen is a rare example of its dynamic color and structure.
